House Bill 1481

Posted Date: 7/15/25 (2:38 PM)

Dear Poolville ISD Families,

We want to inform you about House Bill 1481, recently passed during the 89th Texas Legislative Session and signed into law by Governor Abbott. This legislation is part of a statewide effort to create more focused learning environments, minimize classroom distractions, and reduce instances of cyberbullying and social media misuse during school hours.

Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, the new law requires all public school districts in Texas to prohibit students from using personal electronic communication devices that can send or receive data while on school property during the school day, including passing periods and lunch.

Devices covered by this law include, but are not limited to:

  • Cell phones
  • Smart watches
  • Fitness trackers with messaging capabilities
  • Bluetooth earbuds or headphones
  • Tablets and personal computers
  • Gaming devices
  • Any other device capable of telecommunication or digital communication

Students will utilize district-issued devices for all instructional purposes during the school day.

Exceptions will be made for students with documented medical needs, special education accommodations, or other health requirements as outlined in the law.

We will continue to share updates and specific details about how Poolville ISD will implement this new policy as the start of the school year approaches. In the meantime, we encourage parents and guardians to begin discussing this important change with your student(s) to help them be prepared when school resumes in August.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in helping us ensure a successful transition and full compliance with this new statewide mandate.

Sincerely,
Poolville ISD Administration
