COVID-19 Protocols for 2021/2022 School Year

COVID

Dear Monarch Friends and Family,

We hope that you are just as excited as we are to start the new school year.  Two of the most common questions that we have been asked this week pertain to COVID-19 protocols and virtual learning opportunities.

Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order in May that prohibited Texas public schools from requiring masks.  As a result, wearing a mask is optional for children, staff, and campus visitors.  Additionally, Texas lawmakers did not pass a bill that would have continued funding districts for remote virtual learning.  Without this funding, districts can only offer in-person instruction.  Poolville ISD understands that learning from home is a desirable option for families with unique personal or family health issues.  We care deeply about you and these issues.  Please rest assured that PISD will continue to promote a learning environment that addresses our children and staff's health, safety, and emotional well-being.

Hand-sanitizing stations will remain in schools and classrooms, and children will be reminded throughout the day to take frequent hand washing and desk sanitizing breaks.  Since water fountains will remain closed, we encourage students to bring refillable water bottles.  Also, PISD is fortunate to have two district nurses.  Our nurses will continue to serve as valuable resources.

As we enter the 2021-2022 school year, remember that masks are optional, COVID-19 vaccines are not required, virtual learning will not be offered, and the state will no longer allow school districts to require quarantines for possible COVID-19 exposure.  This school year, public schools will treat COVID-19 exposure similar to the flu or strep throat and will not send home COVID-19 letters.  Self-screening your children for symptoms and keeping them home when they are ill will be increasingly more important.

Poolville is a strong and proud community that consistently works in a cooperative manner to meet and overcome challenges.  This is yet another opportunity for us to model our cooperative and enduring spirits for our children and their education.

Together we will accomplish more.

Thank you.
