The following procedures were developed according to policy governing community relations for Poolville ISD.  Volunteers may be used in the schools to relieve teachers of routine and clerical matters so teachers may increase their effectiveness in instruction.  In some cases, volunteers may supplement the teacher's work through the volunteer's special resources.  Volunteer participation is encouraged and appreciated by the district.

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Volunteers shall fill out a criminal history record information form.  Volunteer services may begin only after the background check process has been completed
  • Attend mandatory orientation to become informed of basic school procedures and trained to use school equipment.  Check with a Volunteer Coordinator for training schedule.
  • Volunteers will sign in and out in the campus office and wear a name tag.  For students safety, school personnel must know who is in the building.
  • Record hours for each volunteer visit.
  • Notify the Volunteer Coordinator or staff personnel if unable to attend at the scheduled time.
  • Volunteers will keep all student information confidential.

Volunteer Guidelines

  • Volunteers work directly under the supervision of the principal in whose building they are assigned.
  • Volunteers shall strive to be consistent, dependable, punctual, respectful, and appreciative of teachers and students.
  • Casual dress is acceptable, but the district requests that volunteers use the staff dress code as a guideline to personal dress.
  • Volunteers are role models for students in behavior, speech, and dress.
  • Volunteers must check with the principal prior to bringing a non-school age child to school while providing volunteer services.  Principals have set particular guidelines and volunteers shall work within these rules.
    • Non-school age child must be supervised by responsible volunteer at all times.

    • Limit one non-school age child per adult during volunteer activities.

    • Non-school age children should not attend volunteer activities that occur in the classroom or the school office.
  • Limit two volunteers at a time in the workroom with the exception of extenuating circumstances.
  • Volunteer activity shall cease in the teacher's lounge during lunch hours.
  • Contact Volunteer Coordinator for needed supplies.
  • Tobacco, alcohol, and drugs are not permitted on school premises.
  • Consider things heard or seen at school as confidential.  Do not criticize or discuss school personnel and students publicly.  If a concern arises, consult with a Volunteer Coordinator or the campus principal.
  • Volunteers shall avoid promoting any commercial products, religious doctrines, or beliefs.
