2008 State Runner-Up
Number Sense

In State UIL
Academic competition at Austin the Poolville High School Number Sense
Team came in 2nd place.
Jeremy Brawley came in 2nd place individually, while
Megan Elliott, Tyler Williams, and Joseph Herbel were the other team
members. Each team member
receive a silver medal, while Jeremy Brawley also received a 2nd
place individual medal.
The Calculator Applications team won 5th place led by Tyler
Williams, Jeremy Brawley, Blaine Hicks, and Joseph Herbel.
It is an honor to compete in the State Meet – to receive medals is
icing on the cake!
Congratulations, and thanks to all of you who have been a part of
educating these wonderful students!
Joe Herbel is the only senior, so hopefully we will be able to
return to Austin
next year.
Poolville
High School
Advances Two Teams
to State UIL Meet
The Poolville HS Number Sense team and the Calculator Applications team
both earned the right to compete at Austin on May 2 and 3 at
the University
of
Texas Campus.
Each team came in 2nd place at Regional, but won the
honor of advancing to state by winning the wildcard in each event. The
wildcard team is the best 2nd place team out of all 4 regions
that will be represented at state.
The 5 students who will be
competing at UT Austin in May will be attempting to earn a medal at the
state meet. The top 2 teams will
be awarded medals for each member, and the top 3 individuals receive
medals.
Kaitlyn Clements won 4th place
in Prose, and will be 1st alternate to state from Region 3.
Angelica Windham
won 6th place in Poetry, so she will be 3rd
alternate to state. All seven students contributed points to Poolville’s
total at Regional.
Number Sense
The Number Sense team represents Poolville with the following students:
Jeremy Brawley, who also placed 2nd individually,
Megan Elliott, Tyler Williams, and Joseph Herbel. Poolville’s team would
have one 1st place in 2 other Regional contests; either
Region1 or Region 4.
Calculator Applications
The Calculator Applications team was comprised of the following
students: Jeremy Brawley,who tied
for 2nd with his raw score of 199 but ended up 4th
after being edged out in the tie-breaker, Blaine Hicks, Tyler Williams,
and Joseph Herbel. This team would have won 1st place in
Region 1.
